If you ask “What do editors do?,” the most common answer is “They catch typos, don’t they?” That is actually a proofreader’s job. Editors make writing clear, improve its structure, and ensure that it’s error free. Different types of editing involve different skills. I can help you with any of the following:
Developmental editing I can co-ordinate and edit a project from proposal or initial stages to final manuscript, incorporating input from authors, consultants, and reviewers.
Substantive/structural editing I can clarify a manuscript’s content and/or reorganize its structure, suggest changes, and consult with the author.
Stylistic editing I can clarify meaning, eliminate jargon or slang, make the language flow more easily, and adjust the reading level to match the target audience.
Rewriting I can create a new manuscript or parts of a manuscript from
existing content supplied by the client, and research and write original material,
if needed.
Copy editing I can edit manuscript for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistency.
Proofreading I can check for typographical errors, and make sure items such as table of contents, headings, captions, and illustrations are both correct and properly placed.
If it has words, I can edit it:
• textbooks | • reports |
• manuals | • web content |
• newsletters | • brochures |
