My science education has been integral to my career and has allowed me to follow my interest in science and the environment. I received a B.Sc. in zoology from the University of Guelph, which helped me land my first job on a children’s science television show at the CBC. There, I researched, wrote, and produced segments. After television production, I moved to publishing. I got my start at Addison Wesley where, again, my knowledge of science and biology led to editing science textbooks. As I gained practical editing experience, I took all the courses in the Certificate in Publishing program at Ryerson University. I am a member of the Editors’ Association of Canada.
I am a freelance editor, doing mainly developmental and substantive editing and mostly in educational publishing. I have been making a living at it for over 12 years.
